Sunday 4:30 p.m. – CBS Tennessee at San Diego The Tennessee Titans travel to San Diego looking to avenge their 23-17 overtime loss to the Chargers on December 9. In a game Tennessee controlled into the fourth quarter, Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers threw a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to take the game to the extra period. Then, LaDainian Tomlinson took care of the rest with a 16-yard touchdown run to give his team the win and control of the AFC West.
In that game, Rivers was knocked out early with a knee injury, but returned to lead his team to the win. This week the Titans are hoping their franchise quarterback, Vince Young, can return from his own injury. Young aggravated a quadriceps injury that had plagued him since mid-season, and gave way to Kerry Collins in the playoff clinching win against the Indianapolis Colts last week. Collins performed admirably in relief, but Tennessee is hopeful that Young will get the start. No matter who lines up at quarterback for the Titans, they will still need to find success in the running game in order to pull off a playoff upset on the road. The trio of LenDale White, Chris Brown and Chris Henry have all been effective at some point in the season, but the Titans will need one of them to step up to the challenge in San Diego. For the Chargers, Rivers has had his ups and downs in his second season as the starter, but he should not have the game on his shoulders this weekend. With the injury to Young and the confidence the Chargers have gained in the second half of the season, they seem to have the advantage. With something to prove after some early playoff exits in the past few seasons, the Chargers should give the home crowd something to cheer about. We’ll take San Diego 28-20. |
